The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is seeking people versed in computers with an interest in historic fish records. Volunteers will be responsible for scanning and saving historic Angler Recognition Program records into the computer and online, seperating scanned record from non-scanned, and shredding most scanned copies.Volunteers will be required to work a minimum of 2 hours a week during the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday. Volunteers will need to commit to the position for at least 2 months. A criminal background check (at no cost to you) and knowledge of computers are required.This is a great opportunity for those who are seeking employment with Inland Fisheries, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, or would just enjoy seeing historic record catches from our great state.If you have any questions, please contact Grace Simms at 903-670-2275 or anglers@tpwd.texas.gov.

Looking for a way to get more involved in your State Park? Join our Friends group to help make a positive difference at Bastrop and Buescher State Parks!Friends of the Lost Pines State Parks is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer group that helps support the park in multiple ways. The purpose of Friends is to assist park staff in the management and conservation of the natural and cultural resources of Bastrop and Buescher State Parks, for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.Friends' support the parks by providing information about the Parks and their resources to the public; assisting and educating visitors to the Parks; fund-raising to support special projects or general operations for the Parks; and, other activities which contribute to the care and conservation of the Parks.All the money that is raised by the Friends' goes directly back into supporting the parks. Friends' fundraise money through firewood sales in both parks, canoe rentals at Buescher, Friends' membership dues and through donations. Copper Breaks State Park is seeking for helpful and motivated Park Hosts to assist in daily operations. Previous Park Host experience is not required, but preferred.Responsibilities:Work with staff to assist in day to day functions of the park as assigned. Tasks may include but are not limited to:-Independently answering visitor questions and providing excellent customer service.-Campsite checks.-Collection of entrance fees.-Litter clean-up.-Restroom and facility cleaning and maintenance.-Campsite maintenance to include cleaning fire rings and grills.-Trail Maintenance.-Assistance with interpretive programming.-Assistance with outreach programming.-Assistance with field trip programming.-Small projects as needed.-Other duties based on interests, skills, and park needs.Requirements: -Must support the TPWD and State Park mission by complying with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.-Work a minimum of 24 volunteer hours per week for an individual or 30 volunteer hours per week split between a couple.-Must follow agency procedures, dress and grooming standards.-Pass a background check. -Minimum Age: 18Benefits: As a Park Host, you will have the opportunity to meet new people and help park visitors to have a memorable experience. In exchange for your time, you will be authorized to stay in the park for a FREE full hookup camp host site! For the duration of your volunteer service, you are provided with a full hook-up site (water, 30/50/110 electric, and sewer) for free. Join Galveston Island State Park as an Angler Education Park Host!Openings: July-October(2025), March-May(2026), June-November (2026)Volunteer responsibilities in this position could include (but are not limited to) the following:-Cleaning litter and equipment/lines from known fishing areas.-Lead 2-3 fishing programs per week.-Generate a monthly fishing report for the park.-Maintain and care for park fishing equipment.-Talk to visitors about fishing and offer assistance and insight.-Clean restrooms.This is not an exhaustive list of possible responsibilities, and other fishing ideas are welcome! Previous Park Host experience preferred, but not required. Galveston Island State Park is open to the visiting public year round. Park Hosts should expect to work weekends and holidays.While anything can be learned, volunteers best suited for this opportunity have extensive knowledge of fishing in Texas and our area and have experience leading groups of people. TPWD Certified Angler Education Instructor Course completion required.This position must complete at least 25 hours of volunteer service each week and will report to the Park Interpreter. Park Hosts stay in a campsite during their time at the park. Volunteer Instructors are needed to help teach this Basic Angler class for youth and adults.Dates: Saturday, March 15, 2025Saturday, April 26, 2025Saturday, May 17, 2025Times: 8am-3pmThis volunteer opportunity is for a Basic Angler Education Course. It is reccomended but not required to become a certified angler instructor before attending this event. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. We will begin the day at the Gary Halter Nature Center in Lick Creek Park. The class will begin at 9 am, but we ask that volunteers arrive around 8am to help setup and prepare for the day.Approximately half of the class time will be held in a covered outdoor area, so please dress appropriately. The instructional portion of the event will end around noon. We will then clean up and weather permitting move to the fishing portion of the event at Stephen C. Bechy Central Park. Fishing is scheduled to begin around 12:45 so it is best to bring a lunch that can be eaten quickly after cleanup or on the way to the next location. This free class is designed to introduce participants ages 6 and up to the sport of fishing using fun, hands-on activities. Volunteers are requested to help teach regulations and ethics; safety; rods, reels, and terminal tackle; fishing knots; assembling a spin cast rod and reel; inshore salt water fish identification/habitat/handling/measuring; equipping your tackle box; casting instruction/practice; a tour of the fish hatchery; and, weather permitting, a chance to catch and release a fish at Sea Center Texas.Please bring water, snacks and a lunch to eat on site. Come out to Lake Pflugerville on Free Fishing Day! Help families and children discover the joy of fishing at this fun, free event. Pflugerville Parks and Recreation will have fishing poles and bait available for free sign out throughout the event. We also will be having a youth fishing tournament awarding the top longest fish of each category. Volunteer responsibilities may include: helping with check in, helping with sign in/out of poles/bait, fishing help tent, practice casting area, and roving volunteers along the shore to help families as needed. Basic fishing knowledge/experience is a plus, but not required. Volunteers are needed to support the angler ed team at Meadow lake to teach families how to cast at our backyard bass station from 9am-11am.
This free event is for the community with the goal to bring outdoor activities to them through smaller neighborhood parks. This park has a recently installed fishing dock on Meadow Lake. There will be "Fishing with a PARD Park Ranger" as well as other activities! This Pop Up Play Day will have an environmental initiative that includes: the City of Round Rock Brush Recycling, household recycling, Police Community Affairs, Fire, CORR Public Library along with bird house building & butterfly garden activities, and the potential for other local businesses to partner with for more environmental activities.
