TPWDiscover - State Parks

Sponsoring Program: State Parks - Distance Learning

TPWDiscover is our agency wide brand for educational content specifically created with early childhood-12th grade audiences in mind!

We offer live and recorded distance learning as well as educational resources, field trips and career fairs. Advanced opportunities can include service learning, citizen science, and field work.

Location: Remote and in-field opportunities across the state
Supervisor: Louisa Torrance
Purpose: To support TPWD's mission by inspiring stewardshipof the natural and cultural resources of Texas by providing free, accessible, educational content to all learners. We work to remove the barriers of cost and access while increasing representation and relevancy through virtual and in-person programming.

Major Duties:
- Represent TPWD State Parks in a positive manner and supplement the work of park staff.
- Support the virtual and in-person efforts of interpretive staff to deliver TEKS-aligned content to early childhood - 12th grade audiences including:
o Lead virtual, distance learning programs through Zoom for school groups. Zoom programs are generally live and interactive, lasting 30 to 45 minutes.
o Create or edit short, 3 to 5 minute long TEKS-aligned videos for the Educational YouTube channel to be featured in the TPWDiscover playlist.
o Align TPWD YouTube videos with current TEKS to add to our Educational Resources spreadsheet.
o Foster relationships between the park and key faculty and staff in local school districts.

Preferred knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Knowledge of working in a classroom setting or as an informal educator working with school groups.
- Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
- Knowledge of conservation education programs such as Project WILD.
- Ability to effectively communicate with young audiences (under 18 years).
- Ability to use Zoom and other virtual platforms.
- Skill in filming and editing videos.

All volunteers must have a criminal background check clearance.

Time Commitment: as needed per project
Volunteers are asked to commit to 6 months minimum.
