Sponsoring Program: San Jacinto Battleground SHS
TITLE: Volunteer Ranger DESCRIPTION: Volunteer rangers assist park staff with various duties related to the battleground. Volunteer rangers may be called upon to provide information, orientation, and interpretation to park visitors. Volunteer rangers can also assist with special events, summer camp, service projects, outreach events, litter pick up, nature programing, cleaning bathrooms and park facilities, or other needed assignments. Duties may include: conducting historic research, planning and delivering interpretive talks, helping with living history programs and tours, creating social media posts, assisting with recreation and outdoor skills-related classes, helping with grounds maintenance, assisting with prairie and marsh restoration projects, etc. TRAINING: Volunteers will be given orientation information about the park and available training and workshop opportunities will be discussed. Where applicable, park staff will provide on the job training and mentoring so that volunteer rangers can acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to begin an adventure of a lifetime at the San Jacinto battleground. TIME COMITTMENT: We would prefer to see you at least once a month, if not more often. QUALIFICATIONS: Volunteers must be able to communicate effectively about the site and be able to provide general information and assistance during visitor interactions. Depending on duties assigned, some minor manual labor and the ability to walk and lift items may be required. AGE: 18 years or older. DRESS CODE: We will provide a uniform top and hat but you must provide your own pants. A nice pair of long pants is preferred and jeans are acceptable.
