Dinosaur Valley State Park - Field Ranger Volunteer 2023-2024

Overview:
Volunteers play a vital role in the conservation and stewardship of Texas' natural and cultural resources. Join the Rangers of Dinosaur Valley State Park and play your part in providing a rewarding experience for our guests. We are seeking skilled and reliable volunteers to help with maintenance tasks throughout the park. These opportunities could include, but are not limited to, facility maintenance, groundskeeping, equipment repair, trail maintenance, and other duties as assigned.

A Volunteer Field Ranger has various duties that include, but are not limited to:
- Leading interpretive programs
- Attending State Park outreach events with staff
- Trash/litter pickup
- Fire-ring maintenance
- Vehicle repair
- Trail maintenance & patrols
- Vegetation control
- Mowing, weed eating, & gardening
- General construction projects as needed

Required Qualifications: Ability to lift 50 lbs. Minimum Age of Volunteers: 16 (if under 18, the Volunteer will need to print a Parental Release Form and bring a completed copy to the event).
Criminal background check is required.

Time Commitment: This opportunity is available year-round from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., seven days a week. There is no minimum requirement for hours. Volunteers can work with the coordinator to create a schedule that is unique and flexible to your needs and availability.

Volunteers would be allowed to hang out in the park, on the day of their service, for free in exchange for their hours. Volunteering for Texas State Parks opens doors to other volunteer opportunities, helps to develop new skills and improve old ones, opens you up to meeting new people, and creates lasting memorable experiences for yourself and our visitors.

Dinosaur Valley State Park is located in Glen Rose, which is situated 1.5 hours south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The town is known as the Dinosaur and Bluegrass Capital of Texas. Travel & Leisure Magazine says it is one of the "Top-ten great weekend getaways in America."

Any volunteers under 18 must complete the Youth Volunteer Parental Release and Acknowledgement form, and must be accompanied by a parent or guarding while volunteering.
