Have you ever thought about living in one of Texas' hidden treasures at no cost? Cooper Lake State Park's South Sulphur Unit is looking for friendly, motivated, and energetic Park Hosts to work and live in its beautiful campground! As a park host, you will support TPWD's mission by assisting with the day to day functions of the park and providing outstanding service to park visitors, maintaining the cleanliness of park grounds and facilities, and supporting basic maintenance needs.
Volunteer duties will include: We understand that each Park Host has different skill sets and our goal is to match you with your skills and passions. Park Host duties at Cooper Lake State Park's South Sulphur Unit are varied based on the park's needs at various times of the year but will include at least one, possibly more, of the following:
- Representing TPWD State Parks in a positive manner
- Campsite maintenance removing trash and ash from fire rings
- Cleaning and stocking restrooms and bathhouses
- Grounds maintenance mowing, weed trimming, tree trimming, & removing trash
- Cabin and shelter maintenance cleaning and small maintenance projects
- Assisting with interpretative programs various opportunities
- Assisting with special events
- Superior customer service providing general information and assistance
- Facility maintenance
- Maintaining cleanliness of assigned host site
Requirements: You will work a minimum of 24 volunteer hours per week. Previous park host experience is preferred, but not required. Experience with customer service and ability to effectively communicate with public, other volunteers, and staff; experience with basic maintenance and equipment use; essential opportunity functions require driving, carrying, walking, and standing. The schedule is flexible depending on the park's needs at various times of the year. Park hosts should expect to work some weekends and holidays. Hosts must sign up for at least six concurrent months at the park in the same position. Background check required.
Benefits: As a maintenance park host, you will have the opportunity to meet new people and help park visitors to have a memorable experience. You also receive the opportunity to play a critical role in the conservation and stewardship of the natural and cultural resources of Texas! In exchange for your time, you will be authorized to stay in the park for free for the duration of your contract. You are provided with a 30/50 amp full hook-up (water, electric, and sewer) site for free. The park headquarters has Wi-Fi and Verizon and AT&T work in most campsites.
