Sponsoring Program: Galveston Island State Park

Love being outdoors? Enjoy talking with people and sharing cool nature facts? Spend your time at Galveston Island State Park helping visitors connect with the coast—while building real experience in education, science communication, and public engagement.

Note: This is a general volunteer role, not a Park Host position.

You''ll team up with the Park Interpreter to help visitors explore, learn, and get excited about the natural world. Your time might include:

  • Leading short hikes and nature programs

  • Helping with school groups, scouts, and campus organizations

  • Supporting special events and community programs

  • Chatting with visitors around the park and in the nature center

  • Assisting with virtual education projects

  • Caring for interpretive spaces like gardens and trailheads

Benefits:

  • Flexible scheduling around classes or work

  • Experience that looks great on résumés (education, biology, environmental science, communications, recreation, etc.)

  • Opportunities to create your own programs or projects

  • A chance to build confidence speaking to groups and working outdoors

Volunteers who enjoy talking with people and can comfortably walk easy to moderate trails for 1 2 hours tend to thrive here but enthusiasm matters most!
