Sponsoring Program: Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park

Major Duties and Requirements:
- Hawk Watch:
- Overview: Assist in a semi-annual count of migrating raptors. Counts occur daily from 9-11 from the park hawk tower.
- Duties:
- Assist the park with the gathering and/or processing of data related to hawk migration.
- Represent TPWD State Parks in a positive manner and supplement the work of park staff.
- Provide general information and assistance to park visitors.
- Requirements:
- Must be able to learn and follow project protocols.
- Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of conditions.
- Must be willing to greet and interact with the public in a professional manner.
- Knowledge and/or interest in park's natural and cultural resources and/or willingness to continue learning.
- Note: Moderate-advanced raptor ID skills are preferred but not required.
- Time Commitment:
- Minimum of one 2-3 hour shift per week during March / April and/or Sep./ Oct.
- Christmas Bird Count (CBC)
- Overview: Join other volunteers in a time-honored tradition of bird counting dating back to 1900. Participants will be assigned an area in the nearby community to take a census of all birds in.
- Requirements and Dates for the '26/'27 to be announced.
