Sponsoring Program: Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site
Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site is seeking passionate and motivated park hosts! Nestled in the Chihuahuan Desert, Hueco Tanks has been a refuge for people for over 10,000 years. The unique geology and hollows in the rock, or huecos, which can hold water for almost an entire year, support life in this harsh environment. Remnants and stories of the past have been left behind through pictographs and archaeological artifacts that are scattered throughout the park. Today, visitors from all over the world come for the various activities the park has to offer, such as world-class rock climbing, birding, camping, hiking, picnicking, and interpretive tours. Don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in this beautiful and unique site.
In exchange for a minimum of 24 volunteer hours a week (30 hours split for couples), hosts will be provided with a full hook-up site (50-amp water/electric). Park hosts must be at least 18 years old and a criminal background check is required. Park host duties include, but aren't limited to:
-overseeing campground area (20 campsites)
-campground restroom cleaning and restocking
-showing park orientation video at Interpretive Center (4 hours/day)
-visitor services/assistance as necessary
El Paso is only a short 20-minute drive away, offering numerous shops, restaurants, and grocery stores. If you are looking for more adventures on your days away from the park, Franklin Mountains State Park, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, and White Sands National Park are all within driving distance!
Thank you for your interest in becoming a park host at Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site! If you have any further questions or would like some more information, please contact park staff.
